QBuild is a commercialised business unit of the Queensland Government. It has been Queensland Government's builder for over 160 years, playing an important role in communities across the state by building and maintaining government-owned assets such as schools, social housing, police stations and correctional and health facilities.
About the role
The role encompasses supervising activities within the South East Queensland (SEQ) region to ensure adherence to Workplace Health Safety and Environment (WHS&E) standards, with a focus on compliance, risk identification, and risk management. This involves overseeing the execution of the Safety Management System and managing WH&S risk procedures along with audit programs across QBuild. The position requires the provision of high-level expertise and advice related to the Safety Management System processes, legislative compliance, and emerging technologies to staff at all levels within QBuild. Regular WHS&E site audits and inspections are conducted to confirm that operational standards for both QBuild and contractor-led projects meet the established criteria.
The role is responsible for guiding WHS professionals, ensuring appropriate training and information sessions aligning with state-wide directives and maintaining training records. Leading investigations into incidents, hazards, and near misses while devising reports and strategies for improvement is also a key function. The individual in this role will develop and spearhead changes to bolster QBuild's safety culture and efficacy through enhancing the Safety Management System. They will also support worker rehabilitation and reintegration programs, promoting WH&S advancement within QBuild by engaging with external agencies and industry groups. Finally, the role demands proactive management of the WHS team's performance and conduct, offering coaching and mentorship to reinforce the capabilities of WHS Advisers.
**Duties and skills involved**:
Demonstrated experience providing expert advice in WHS legislative compliance requirements, including relevant legislation, Codes of Practice, Australian Standards / International Standards.
Demonstrated understanding of how team's work aligns to organisational objectives by considering wider organisational objectives when making decisions and going about their work.
Demonstrated experience in effectively lead the development and implementation of improvement initiatives and strategies.
Demonstrated experience in effectively managing a team in a complex work environment to deliver the required work program.
While not mandatory, qualifications in WHS are highly desirable
While not mandatory, additional qualifications such as a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, injury and return to work management or incident investigation are highly desirable.
