An opportunity exists for an experienced Linux SME to join the Infrastructure Services team in Sydney who is also looking to move in to a team lead or management role in the near future.

The technology environment in Sydney is a mix of proprietary and vendor components focused on delivering highly available, low latency services for order routing and Market data distribution. The environment comprises a suite of Windows and Unix/Linux (primarily SuSe,), EMC storage, Cisco networking, Oracle RDBMS and various proprietary and vendor systems as needed by market specific requirements.

Desirable:

- Maintain and enhance the Linux Infrastructure, within the Sydney, Hong Kong and remote locations.
- Provide server engineering skills as part of project efforts to deliver extended 3rd party services and solutions for Trading and Market data systems ( e.g. for connection to a new broker or exchange)
- Focus on performance; contribute engineering expertise for configuration adjustment and optimisation of the trading systems, extending across network and storage components.
- Provide expertise and support to ensure continuous availability of the production server infrastructure.
- Provide mentoring and leadership to junior IS team members.
- Provide Linux design architecture / SME skills within the greater IT department.
- Work closely with the broader IT team to understand key issues and initiatives that impact performance and reliability.
- Understand external trends, competitor approaches and recent developments in IT that will help improve our trading infrastructure and services
- Identify bottlenecks and potential areas for optimization.
- Provide ongoing ideas, solutions and recommendations for producing faster and more reliable trading infrastructure.

**What we're looking for**
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience with hands-on infrastructure engineering experience in Linux (SuSe or RHEL)
- Experience with RDBMS systems, particularly Oracle
- Experience in Scripting Linux (Bash, Python or Perl)
- Experience in Virtualisation (Xen kernel, VMware or Hyper-V)
- Experience in automated builds (Kickstart or Autoyast)
- Experience/exposure to Linux automation (Puppet/Chef/Ansible or Salt)
- Evidence of good analysis and problem solving skills
- Well organised and articulate and able to present findings and recommendations clearly.

Desirable:

- Experience/exposure to Windows Operating System
- Experience/exposure to MySQL/Linux,
- Experience/exposure to Server Monitoring platforms (Nagios, Check_MK, PRTG etc)
- Practical experience of working for a Hardware/Systems Services Group as part of an R&D or Professional services group focused on solution delivery for optimisation of (client) server and infrastructure environments.
- Practical experience in areas of High Performance Computing or similar, investigative analysis efforts focused on tuning and configuration of server and network environments.
- Practical experience in a Trading and Market data environment.
- Good understanding of Linux packaging systems: rpm/yum/dpkg/apt.
