Head of First Nations Strategy and Governance

We are seeking a strong, visionary Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader to take up the role of Head of First Nations Strategy and Governance. This critical position leads the implementation of our First Nations People and Place (FNPP) Strategy, ensuring cultural governance and First Nations self-determination are embedded across the organisation.
About the Role
**As Head of First Nations Strategy and Governance, you will**:

- Lead the implementation of the FNPP Strategy across all Uniting Directorates, translating strategic objectives into practical, measurable outcomes.
- Provide expert advice to senior leaders on First Nations matters, ensuring First Nations voices inform decision-making at every level.
- Implement and embed governance frameworks that promote cultural safety and system-wide change.
- Lead high-impact initiatives such as the Ngumbadal Leadership Group, and oversee culturally grounded programs that foster learning, respect, and connection.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders—including communities, Aboriginal organisations and peak bodies—to drive outcomes and influence sector-wide practice.
- Monitor and report on the success and impact of Uniting’s First Nations initiatives, including the development of our annual First Nations Impact Report.

Key Responsibilities
- Champion First Nations self-determination and cultural governance across Uniting.
- Shape organisational strategies to reflect cultural priorities and emerging opportunities.
- Ensure program delivery is effective, timely, and aligned with Uniting’s values.
- Cultivate a culturally safe and inclusive workplace through collaboration and advocacy.
- Work in close partnership with the Director, First Nations Strategy and Outcomes, and Director of Customer, Risk and Governance.

About You
This is an identified role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
You are a respected Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader who brings:

- Proven leadership experience in a large, complex organisation.
- Deep understanding of cultural governance and community engagement principles.
- A collaborative and strategic mindset, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to build partnerships between mainstream organisations and Aboriginal communities.
- Strong communication, negotiation and facilitation skills.
- Ability to navigate complex environments and drive systemic change with integrity and purpose.

**You’ll also bring**:

- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Project management and planning skills.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and working with data and insights.
- A current Driver Licence and willingness to travel regularly within NSW and the ACT.
