**Position Purpose**

The Lecture in Animal Production and Science, Level B is expected to develop scholarly research outputs
and professional activities relevant to the discipline. This position contributes to the teaching effort of the
Discipline of Agricultural Sciences through the preparation and delivery of lectures, tutorials, other types of
teaching activities, and supervision of honours and postgraduate students and is expected to perform a
range of administrative and service functions within the College and across the University.***

**About the Work Area**

The College of Science, Health, Engineering and Education contains ten academic disciplines, one of which
is Agricultural Sciences. This discipline teaches the undergraduate Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree
with majors in Animal Science, Animal Health, and Crop and Pasture Science. In addition, the discipline
provides essential specialist teaching across a range of core units in Veterinary Science. In fourth year, the
discipline offers Honours courses. Postgraduate courses include coursework Masters in Biosecurity, and
research-focused PhDs.

Position Description
Lecturer Level B

The research strengths of the Discipline are in the three research centres in the Food Futures Institute,
namely the Centre for Animal Production and Health, the Centre for Sustainable Farming Systems, and the
Centre for Crop and Food Innovation.

The Centre for Animal Production and Health conducts research across the value chain to support the
production of meat, milk and fibres for human consumption and use. The Centre has a proven track record
of attracting significant research funding and delivering substantial industry-impacting outcomes. Research
activities in this closely industry-linked Centre include livestock health, welfare, nutrition, reproductive efficiency
and growth, meat science and consumer attitudes. Underpinning research excellence in Animal Production
is recognised internationally through the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) exercise, where Animal
Production has consistently received a score of 4 - Above World Standard - since the inception of the
scheme.

**Key Responsibilities / Duties**

1. Contribute to research, individually and as a member of a team, and produce quality publications.
3. Contribute to teaching, including preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, seminars, practical

classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and studio sessions,
and marking and assessments.

4. Develop and practice innovative teaching and learning methods.
5. Consult with, and provide advice to, undergraduate, postgraduate and HDR students.
6. Coordinate units and courses.
7. Supervise honours, Masters by Coursework, and HDR students.
8. Contribute to the College, the University, the profession and the discipline.
9. Participate in the University’s Academic Contribution Development Review (ACDR).
10. Undertake such other duties as determined by the Head of Discipline.
