**Position Purpose**
The purpose of this position is to provide clinical leadership in the Emergency and Critical Care
(ECC) Department to support the operation of The Animal Hospital at Murdoch University. The
position will follow the TAHMU business guiding principles which are underpinned by Murdoch
University’s strategic plan and the School of Veterinary Medicines strategic and operational
plan. Within in this role the relevant ones are

**About the Work Area**
Murdoch University is home to the only Veterinary School in Western Australia, and its
prestigious teaching hospital provides the clinical facility that enables students to learn hands
on skills in veterinary clinical and diagnostic sciences. It also provides a service to community
through its team of top specialists who oversee the care and treatment of all animals referred
to the Hospital.

**Key Responsibilities/Duties
1. Lead and manage Clinical Team members, providing supervision, support & guidance
in the effective delivery of an exceptional clinical service and the provision of an
outstanding experience for students.
2. Oversee the delivery of the clinical service mission of the departments, for which this
position is responsible for, through coordination of workflow by the veterinary
professionals (vets/ nurses/ support team) between departments.
3. Contribute to the development of the annual clinic operations plan with the Clinical
Director and Senior Manager - Strategy & Operations, including accountability for

everyday compliance, regulatory, ethics, safety, quality assurance, and risk
management practices and outcomes.
4. Design and align KPIs in alignment with the Clinical Director and Senior Manager
- Strategy and Operations.
5. Ensure clinical services operate to agreed revenue targets and costs in line with agreed
budgets.
6. Work collaboratively and effectively across the University, operating as one team with
the Senior Clinical leads and clinical teams. Leading the development, implementation,
monitoring and evaluation of strategies and processes to improve coordination
between relevant departments.
7. Assisting in recruitment and career development of veterinary professionals.
8. Responsible for the oversight of hospital operations relevant to the sections led,
including stock management how assets are managed, inventory control and ensure
policy around billing is followed by team members
9. Maintain adequate clinical supplies. Ensure supply purchases are cost efficient and
