Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-discrimination Act 1997. We are looking for a healthcare professional with a Bachelor degree or higher level relevant to role. This includes relevant discipline specific allied health qualifications, including Bachelor Health Science for Djirruwang Program graduates - AHPRA Registration as an Occupational Therapist or Psychologist; or eligibility for membership of AASW as a Social Worker. Here at Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (the Network), the Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Care Coordinator (Walama List) will ensure systems, services and processes are established and maintained between Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (Justice Health NSW) custodial and community drug and alcohol services and other key services (including non-government, primary care, social support, justice and mental health services). This is to ensure appropriate access to health care and support for Aboriginal people with serious and enduring drug and alcohol needs. The Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Care Coordinator will independently and autonomously co-ordinate a range of preventative, health and social care wrap around responses for Aboriginal consumers to improve collaboration, connection and service coordination between drug and alcohol services and those available in the community, at these critical transition points in care. The role will provide cultural expertise to stakeholders in the provision of culturally appropriate care, and work with services to ensure the cultural needs of the consumer are met. The Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Care Coordinator will support clinical teams in the development of culturally informed assessment and treatment approaches, and ensure the social, cultural and historical contexts are appreciated and reflected in the way drug and alcohol services are offered. The Care Coordinator will also ensure drug and alcohol treatment and care builds on the strengths, resources and knowledge of Aboriginal consumers. The Aboriginal Drug and Alcohol Care Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the broader drug and alcohol health system (including the Walama List) to increase their capacity to work with Aboriginal people, families and communities in a culturally safe manner.
