**The Role**
Exciting opportunities exist for motivated, high performing Data Directors to join Defence’s Data Governance and Services Branch. These opportunities are across the entire spectrum of data activities including policy, governance, analytics, capability management, and professionalisation.

As a Data Director, you will be responsible for:

- Influencing and developing strategies, policies, priorities and operational practices in support of Defence objectives outlined in the National Defence Strategy (NDS) and Defence Data Strategy 2.0.
- Providing strategic advice to senior management and stakeholders including leading and assuming accountability for very complex work that has strategic, political or operational significance.
- Managing the risks associated with the use of data including balancing security and privacy against the benefits of collecting and sharing data.
- Initiating, establishing and maintaining strong relationships with a network of stakeholders internally and externally, and work toward mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Leading and providing strategic direction to a multi-disciplinary team including developing business plans, strategies and priorities and monitoring workflow and performance.

**About our Team**
Data Division is the hub of a federated approach to uplift Defence’s ability to generate insights from data and make better-informed decisions. Our goal is to lead by example and support Groups and Services across Defence to better govern, trust, discover, use and share their data. Data Governance and Services Branch delivers foundational data capabilities for Defence, and provides stewardship of the Data Profession.

The Branch has a strong focus on enabling Joint Warfighting and Enterprise Performance, and delivers robust Enterprise strategy, policy and guidance. We work collaboratively with Defence’s Groups and Services, across Government, and with our international partners on data matters to ensure that the use of data in the organisation is strategy led, interoperable and addresses the key challenges facing Defence.

Data Division is based primarily in Canberra, but our team is distributed throughout Australia with a presence in most major capital cities. Travel may be required for some positions. Where appropriate, Data Division will support flexible working arrangements, however some of our work is security classified and will be required to be conducted in a Defence office with appropriate facilities.
