**Who we are**

**Mail Policy & Operations and Finance** branch within BOD encompasses sections including mail policy and operations, divisional finance and cost recovery, governance and planning, change and communications, project management, information communications technology reform, divisional data, and automation capability.

**BOD Data & Automation (BDA)** section oversees the divisions investment in, and adoption of, automation solutions that increase efficiency and accuracy, and improve staff experience. The section also delivers divisional data capability including reporting and analysis that connects decision makers to insights that better inform their decisions. These capabilities are supported by project management framework and business analysis.

**The Job**

Key responsibilities of this role include:

- Managing data analysis and reporting activities in the area of biosecurity.
- Developing strategies and tools to report on the department’s ability to meet regulatory performance standards.
- Providing strategic advice to Biosecurity leadership based on evidence and statistics.
- Providing data and analysis to support discussions related to workforce requirements and recruitment activities against maintenance of published service standards.
- Providing a high level of leadership and management to teams, including building staff capability.
- Working collaboratively across relevant divisions and other policy areas to deliver the Division’s business.
- Demonstrating a high level of judgement and expertise to interpret and analyse biosecurity data and information from a range of sources.
- Promoting the APS Values, the APS Employment Principles and compliance with the Code of Conduct.

**Please note** that this recruitment process will initially be used to fill one ongoing vacancy in the section and that this role may be able to be performed from any of the locations listed above. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may also be used to full future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.

**Knowledge and experience**

The following knowledge and demonstrated experience is desirable:

- Qualifications or strong experience in interpreting data to deliver actionable insights and reporting products to inform decisions at operational and executive levels.
- Knowledge and understanding of best practice related to performance reporting and data governance standards.
- Experience in using Power BI and a strong understanding of the capabilities, opportunities, and limitations this platform provides.
- Experience in leading a diverse and geographically dispersed team of employees; inspiring a sense of purpose and managing performance in a technical and regulatory environment.
- A high level of written and verbal communication skills.
- Operational experience in a regulatory environment would be well regarded.

**Eligibility**

**Citizenship** -** To be eligible for employment with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry you must be an Australian citizen.

**Security Clearance** -** This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

**Pre-employment Check** - Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.
