The School of Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure Engineering (EMI) undertakes teaching and research across a range of disciplines that are internationally recognised for their contribution to fundamental research. EMI has several well-established industry linkages and international partnership and is building a vibrant profile of interdisciplinary research, working with industry with an aim to contribute to society. EMI offers a comprehensive range of accredited Master of Engineering and Master of Information Technology programs taught through the Electrical, Mechanical and Infrastructure departments as well as professional Masters programs. **About the role**
You will take part in growing a new interdisciplinary design and engineering research group focusing on human centred sustainable technically grounded design research. In addition, you will advise students or student projects in your area of expertise and support the teaching of design. You are expected to do independent research, but also find synergies with the other group members and conduct joint research that leads to high level peer reviewed journal and conference publications. You can be involved in acquiring research funding to gain academic experience.

You will be located in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT) and will be expected to be an active member of the Department, collaborating with other researchers. You will have ample opportunity to interact also outside the department, given we are located on the same campus as e.g. Computer Science, the School of Design, the School of Psychology, etc.

Responsibilities include:

- Conduct research and support building an active research program in design methodology focusing on human centred design, empathy in engineering design, data driven design, design for circularity or creativity in engineering design.
- Contribute to curriculum design, teaching, training, scientific mentoring and supervision of students as required.
- Active participation in the communication and dissemination of research.
- Performing other tasks as requested by the supervisor or the Head of the Department.

**About You**
To be successful in this role you will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team as well as exceptional written and communication skills. You will be confident in analysis or hands-on skills and have experience in design methodology and design science.

You will also have:

- A PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Product Development, Engineering Design or a closely related discipline;
- Skills and experience in design methodology and design science;
- A record of high-quality research in design as evidenced by, for example publications in top journals;
- To ensure the University continues to provide a safe environment for everyone, this position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check._
