The Division provides a contemporary, responsive, sustainable, intelligence-led and science-based plant biosecurity system that protects Australia's plant health status. The **Post-Entry Quarantine Group (PEQ)** is responsible for the post arrival quarantine of plants and animals at the Mickleham Post-entry Quarantine Facility located on the outskirts of Melbourne. The Mickleham PEQ Facility is purpose built for accommodating high risk plants, horses, cats, dogs, ruminants, birds and bees while undergoing post-entry quarantine. Working in partnership with plant scientists and veterinarians, we ensure that all plants and animals passing through the facility meet all necessary requirements to demonstrate compliance with the regulatory requirements for their safe import and that the health and welfare of the plants and animals is maintained throughout the period of their stay in PEQ.

**The Job**
This is where you play an important role. As a Response and Operational Safety Manager within the PEQ, you will lead and manage safety and response activities across our operations. This includes conducting risk assessments, managing hazards and incidents, coordinating business continuity activities, and overseeing property maintenance and improvements. You will handle complex problems, manage client issues, and engage with both internal and external stakeholders to drive safety and response improvements. Your ability to lead with enthusiasm and resolve challenges will be key to ensuring the success of our work programs and exports.
- Lead and manage a program of safety, response, and business continuity activities to support biosecurity services for animal and plant imports at the Post-Entry Quarantine (PEQ) facility. This includes coordinating risk assessments and implementing risk management strategies and measures, provide education on safety protocols and emergency management to staff, incident management and reporting, and safety data analysis and reporting, and property maintenance to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor and improve processes, ensuring they are effective, efficient, and aligned with strategic goals while contributing to business improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with technical, legislative, financial, and administrative frameworks, including the Biosecurity Act 2015, to meet regulatory requirements.
- Build and support team capability through coaching, training, performance feedback, and conflict resolution, while promoting career development and adherence to departmental core values.
- Foster a culture of safety, diversity, inclusiveness, and high performance, ensuring compliance with Work Health and Safety policies and actively promoting positive attendance.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to assess safety issues and risks, providing measured and practical advice that aligns with operational requirements, compliance and safety standards.
- Prioritize and adapt to changing priorities, making effective use of resources to meet service delivery standards.
- Keep up to date with legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and Australia Standards related to work health and safety.
