The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and facilitate the legitimate movement of people and goods across it.

**Overview of Group**:
Industry and Border Systems Group (IBSG) is one of four groups within the ABF. Our purpose is to lead the organisation to modernise and reform activity at the border.

IBSG is the ABF’s primary interface with industry and the owner of ABF operational systems. It supports ABF operational efforts through the scoping, trial and delivery of new business processes and operating models, underpinned by technology to modernise border activities, reduce operational risk and effort and enhance security outcomes. IBSG works extensively with port owners to ensure new and emerging ports meet the ABF’s operational need, and have policy responsibility for travellers and ports. The Group leads the ABF’s contribution to major Government reforms, and coordinates whole of agency priorities, strategy, capability development, business planning and performance reporting.

In this round, we are seeking professionals who have expertise in the following streams:

- Program Delivery and Implementation
- Strategy
- Program and Group Coordination
- Project and Event Management
- Note that we are also recruiting policy professionals through a separate, dedicated round._

**Overview of the Branch**:
IBSG is organised into four branches, with a short summary for each listed below.

We are also building a Group Coordination team to manage a wide range of work that cuts across the Group. This includes preparing SES officers with talking points and well researched proposals for both internal and external stakeholders, ad-hoc tasks, supporting workforce planning, recruitment, and finance.
- Strategic Coordination (SC) Branch _

Strategic Coordination is a small, friendly and dynamic branch, that provides strategic analysis and advice to support the ABF and its Executive by providing a whole-of-agency view of investment priorities, capability, strategy, performance and business planning.

We drive capability and investment planning across the ABF, through centralised governance coordination and support. Our work extends to whole-of-ABF strategic products that underpin our mission, vision and operational independence across the border continuum. Together, strategy and capability play a significant role in shaping the priorities and future of the ABF and its operating environment.

We are central to ABF performance reporting, and drive this function across the whole agency. We work closely with all ABF Groups and the Department of Home Affairs to bring together ABF’s input to the Annual Report, Corporate Plan and business plans. These processes help shape and inform the organisation’s planning and ensures the ABF remains accountable to the Australian public.
- Customs and Border Modernisation (CBM) Branch _

We drive the Home Affairs Portfolio’s trade modernisation reform agenda, which is a significant opportunity for ABF to put in place the foundations of the border of the future. This reform program will support the implementation of a simplified, tell-us-once digital model for Government-to-business interaction on trade and cargo, and support a broader series of reforms to bring Australia’s supply chain management into the 21st century.

The work of the Branch is both high profile and fast-paced and requires officers who are committed to owning work programs and specific projects over the short-to-medium term. Over the next 12 months, we will be developing a range of innovative policy and regulatory reforms across the full range of the ABF’s business. We work on future-focused policy and RegTech solutions, and work in partnership with industry and other government agencies, to deliver a major microeconomic reform for the Australian community.
- Traveller Policy and Industry Engagement (TPIE) Branch _
