Adam Smith International (ASI) is currently seeking a dynamic and energetic professional looking to jump start their career in international aid & development. This role would be suitable for someone who has experienced the aid sector as an intern or volunteer and can work flexibly in a team.
At ASI, the Assistant Manager role is the entry point for our program management career track. It feeds our pipeline for the next generation of project managers. This is a one year position, with possibility for promotion at the end of 12 months.
**About the Role**
As an Assistant Manager, you will support the day to day running of programs within our Asia Pacific portfolio. You will also play a fundamental role within the team supporting the development of proposals in the pursuit of future programs.
There is no one typical day in this role; however you will be tasked with the following:
- Managing and supporting our programs across the region;
- Providing logístical support to program teams in-country and for short term consultant deployments, including coordinating travel arrangements (flights, accommodation and visas);
- Providing quality administrative support to our overseas program teams;
- Supporting the team’s external recruitment of associates and preparing personnel and supplier contracts;
- Contributing to business development initiatives to secure work from new and existing clients, including the Australian Government;
- Building and managing strong and effective working relationships with key clients, partners and associates;
- Contributing to the team’s thought leadership, communications, research and knowledge management efforts to support the growth of ASI across Asia Pacific.
**About you**
The successful applicant will have at minimum:
- Knowledge of the Australian and/or other donor aid programs;
- Political, social and cultural understanding of economic development in the Asia Pacific region;
- Interest (and experience preferred) in work in developing and conflict-affected areas;
- Some project management experience. Experience within the international development sector or government agency preferred.
- Ability to build effective, credible client relationships and networks including a range of multicultural stakeholders;
- High degree of organisational ability, including working well under pressure, with a high level of accuracy, and ability to understand complex areas of work;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including report writing and presenting information, strong editing ability, and excellent computer skills;
- A desire to travel and an enthusiasm for tackling unfamiliar and challenging problems;
- Pragmatic and solution-oriented approach.
