**The Role**
The Assistant Director in the Superannuation Policy team is responsible for managing a range of complex superannuation issues within the Defence portfolio. As a leader you will mentor, develop staff and encourage innovation.
Within this role, you will;
- Maintain a professional network with central agencies and key stakeholders.
- Develop accurate and timely policy advice to senior leadership and Ministers.
- Have a good knowledge of superannuation legislation or experience in policy development.
- Be comfortable working in a high tempo environment, managing competing priorities.
- Develop the team’s capability in communicating effectively with influence.
- Investigate complex technical issues and communicate in clear and concise language appropriate for a range of audiences.
- Be a strategic thinker with the ability to identify issues and long-term impacts of policy proposals.
- Show judgement and have a track record in collaboration, in order to achieve quality outcomes.

**About our Team**
The Directorate of Superannuation Policy is a recently formed policy team within Defence People Group, located in Canberra.

The Directorate is responsible for managing the policy settings and advice on other administrative/technical issues that arise in relation to the superannuation schemes within the Defence portfolio. The team balances longer term reform priorities with urgent policy advice, briefings, and responses to correspondence and emerging issues.
- An understanding of and commitment to the Defence values and behaviours.
- Good knowledge of/experience with Australian superannuation legislation.
- Knowledge of how defined benefit and accumulation schemes operate would be desirable.
- Leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in achieving outcomes.
- Communication skills with a demonstrated ability to translate information in a clear, concise manner and develop briefing material for a wide variety of audiences.
- A track record in leading and developing a high performing team, managing a number of dynamic, competing priorities to achieve results.
- Enthusiasm for continuous improvement in both policy and business processes, with the ability to mentor others and drive change.
- Experience in exercising strong strategic judgement, providing expert and timely advice to enable senior decision making.
- A background in public policy development and analysis.
