**The Role**
International Engagement is a key tool for the Australian Government to achieve its overall strategic objectives. CASG has a critical and far reaching role in engaging other countries, particularly through a range of materiel cooperation agreements and DEPSEC CASG's position as the National Armaments Director. The CASG Assistant Director of International Engagement will provide support to Ministers, DEPSEC CASG and Division Heads on engagement and international policy matters. With the increasing importance of international collaborations, including as an input to capability, the importance of delivering key policy input and the conduct of CASG partner engagement is growing.

This is an exciting and fast paced position that requires the successful applicant to coordinate key international events for CASG. Regular engagement with senior managers and Government, and foreign Government officials will be undertaken, and the applicant will need to be comfortable in being self-sufficient and exercising a high degree of judgement in this environment.

Excellent writing skills are required, as is a broad knowledge of the workings of Defence and preferably (but not necessarily) CASG. Leadership, judgement, interpersonal skills, strategic nous, resilience, agility and attention to detail will all be exercised in this role.

**About our Team**
The International Engagement Team sits within the Functions Delivery Branch of Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group. The team maintains Australia's relationships with allied partners regarding defence materiel matters and capability development. Our main responsibilities include:

- Developing international engagement objectives and supporting their achievement through materiel engagement;
- Coordinating planning for Australia's annual bilateral meetings with allied partners (hosted in Australia and overseas);
- Coordinating the planning for senior foreign official visits to Australia;
- Developing written capability briefs on behalf of CASG to inform Ministers and Defence senior executives;
- Supporting the development of Defence's Memoranda of Understanding (and subordinate agreements) with other nations in the fields of defence materiel and capability.

The Assistant Director International Engagement will have the ability to write high-level briefs such as Ministerial submissions, senior officer decision briefs and talking points on capability and policy matters. They will be able to understand, condense and align disparate briefing material into clear and concise briefs and talking points for senior officers. There will be a requirement to evaluate industry policy and program issues and recommend courses of action. Strong liaison and networking skills are required - with the ability to clearly convey expectations from a wide set of Defence stakeholders and engage with international counterparts, follow-up taskings, and ensure timely contributions are made to the international engagement team. Also required are excellent oral communication skills, the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, resilience, agility and attention to detail.
