**Position Overview**
Reporting to the Director Court Operations (NSW/ACT) the position of Manager Court Operations has responsibility for the management of the Courts’ registry operations in Newcastle, as well as numerous circuit locations in the Hunter, Central Coast, Mid-North Coast and the New England regions.
The role of Manager Court Operations:
- Manages a range of resources, including human, financial and physical resources, to achieve defined service and operational objectives at a local, state and national level.
- Liaises with the judiciary of all courts in their location and ensures that the judiciary is properly supported both in chambers and in court.
- Ensures court services are responsive to client needs and are provided in a courteous, timely and efficient manner.
- Works to align service delivery within court operational guidelines to identify continuous improvement opportunities at a local, state and national level.
- Leads and motivates staff, to maintain the confidence of judges in the administration of the Courts and to motivate others to cooperate in the achievement of the courts’ objectives.
- Develops and maintains key internal and external stakeholder relationships, including with the legal profession, social service providers, clients, indigenous communities and other culturally diverse community groups to ensure that the courts’ services recognise the particular needs of these groups.
**Major Activities**
- In accordance with the Courts’ strategic and operational plans and national service standards, lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams delivering a range of client-driven professional and business support services within the location, to ensure client service standards are met.
- As a leader of the location, and part of the broader court operations management group, assist in the development and implementation of relevant business plans, projects and initiatives in collaboration with the Director Court Operation NSW/ACT and other members of the Court & Tribunal Services leadership team
- Manage the effective use of resources, developing and maintaining the necessary skills and flexibility to support changes in service demand.
- With respect to operational performance matters, maintain effective liaison with all judges, court personnel and others to ensure that court services meet the immediate and long-term needs of both internal and external clients.
- Ensure consistency in the delivery of client services (practice and procedures) within the operational areas of the Courts.
- Where appropriate, assist and maintain a wide network of stakeholder relationships to promote feedback on court services and the development of effective, strategic partnerships, including partnerships with state courts for circuit requirements.
- Exercise delegated financial authority and make decisions in accordance with relevant policy and procedures., including management of the registry budget.
The person in this role will be responsible for:

- working effectively with judges and other areas of court operations, including Senior Management, Registrars, Court Child Services, and Corporate Services.

**Competencies & Attributes**
The person for this role will have leadership skills and possess exemplary communication, negotiation, interpersonal and relationship building skills with the ability to influence outcomes, build positive relationships and achieve desired outcomes.
They will have analytical, change management and customer service skills with a focus on achieving exceptional standards in service delivery for court users and the Courts.
They will have substantial management knowledge and experience working in a variety of situations. Knowledge and work experience may be supplemented by relevant qualifications.
They will be an effective communicator and negotiator with the proven ability to lead, support and develop court staff.
**Selection Criteria**
- Demonstrated understanding of client service principles, with proven capacity to develop and implement client service delivery initiatives and an ability to maintain a culture of continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to promote, build and maintain effective internal and external working relationships including the ability to effectively liaise with members of the judiciary, the legal profession, other service providers and stakeholders, the general public and court staff.
