Environmental Education Events Officer, 6-Month Contract, Public Sector

Your new company is a local council here in Sydney. In this role you will be part of the environmental and sustainability team. The purpose of the Environment Unit at this City Council is to provide a range of services that protect and enhance the natural environment whilst working across the organisation and the community to develop a culture of sustainability and resilience. We aspire to be leaders in ecological sustainability and collaborate with the community, businesses and other stakeholders to ensure that the programmes and services delivered are meeting their needs, both now and in the future, for a cleaner, greener, safer environment.

**Your new role**

The Environmental Education Events Officer engages the community in action for living sustainable lifestyle practices, avoiding waste and reducing their carbon emission footprint. You will run workshops, webinars, set up events, run programmes and deal with stakeholders and members of the public daily. You will run work shops and host online events also. You will be passionate about working in this team and lead by example-wanting to make a change within the community to encourage sustainable lifestyle practices.

Duties & Responsibilities:

- The development and implementation of sustainability and waste education programmes for the wider community.
- Inspiring the community to change their behaviour and take action to reach a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle and reduce their carbon emissions. running webinar, events, workshops etc.
- Creation of the reports for workshop participant feedback and evaluations for the Environmental Educators.
- Produce promotional communication pieces.
- Participate and provide sustainability and waste educational programmes at major Council festival.
- Project management-Contribute to the development of cross-functional programmes that progress active travel and helping our communities become more resilient.
- Undertake typical event/ project management duties.

**What you'll need to succeed**
- Strong event and project management skills
- Ideally someone who has worked in council or education and has experience in a similar role. Must be interested in making the community more environmentally friendly.
- Tertiary qualifications in environmental education, communications or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in researching, develop and delivering educational programmes, ideally on sustainability topics.
- Outstanding writing skills and excellent attention to detail in proof-reading and editing.
- Excellent multitasking and organisational skills including the ability to set priorities, undertake effective problem-solving to reach solutions and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Strong presentation and customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability to distil information from a variety of sources into a compelling message for a range of audiences.
- Current NSW Class C Driving Licence.
- Solid experience in creating engaging and targeted content for website, e-newsletters, annual reports, social posts, event management tools and other digital assets.

**Please note you may be required to work weekends/over time for these events.**
