The Specialist, Risk and Insights sits within the Risk and Insights section of AUSTRAC’s Regulatory Operations Branch. The section consists of four teams: Regulatory Insights; Regulatory Analytics; Monitoring and Triage; and Vetting. Depending on their skills and experience the successful applicant will be placed in either the Monitoring and Triage or Vetting teams.

**The Monitoring and Triage team** is AUSTRAC’s centralised capability responsible for the identification and assessment of instances of non-compliance with the AML/CTF Act, AML/CTF Rules and other regulatory risks. The team reviews information from a range of sources to identify, assess and respond to non-compliance, including self-disclosures, referrals from internal and external parties, open source information, and results from our monitoring system that runs across AUSTRAC’s data. Based on this assessment, the team makes evidence-based recommendations to decision-makers about an appropriate regulatory response to any non-compliance. The team also engages with reporting entities to better understand and respond to non-compliance.

In addition to the above, the Monitoring and Triage team also proactively identifies regulatory issues on a thematic and/or industry level by undertaking qualitative and quantitative analysis of a range of AUSTRAC information.

Under limited direction, the Specialist, Risk and Insights is responsible for:

- Identifying and responding to potential non-compliance with the _Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (Cth) (AML/CTF Act)_;
- using the information gathering powers of AUSTRAC to collect information and intelligence in order to make evidence-based recommendations and judgements;
- actively contributing to the ongoing drafting, development and improvement of internal policies and procedures;
- undertaking research and analysis of current and emerging regulatory issues of higher complexity;
- developing and managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as AUSTRAC management, regulated entities, partner agencies and other government agencies to achieve regulatory objectives;
- such other relevant duties as required by the Manager, Monitoring and Triage or the Director, Risk and Insights from time to time.
