About the OPPORTUNITY
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight and hybrid working.
The position involves the exercise of engineering judgement within broad and often undefined parameters in the overall interests of the overall project, in full cognisance of the likely effect on the business as a whole.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Deliver a design that is compliant with the appropriate laws and regulations, is acceptably safe, has an acceptable environmental impact and meets the customer's needs
- Make engineering decisions and reach engineering compromises that trade off one aspect of performance requirements against another
- Provide direction, guidance, and review to the technical development and delivery teams responsible for delegated scope
- Ensuring appropriate review and approval of all engineering outputs for all design components to the extent specified in an Instrument of Appointment
- Supporting the development and management of System requirements, models and documents (System and Subsystem Specifications, Product Breakdown Structure, Design Documents, component specifications, interface specifications, MBSE artefacts, etc.)
- Provide systems engineering expertise in development of robust, cost effective technical solutions for bids, proposals and detailed project engineering planning
- Use domain, discipline and Systems Engineering understanding to ensure enabling, supporting and delivered products robustly and demonstrably meet their requirements and are fit for purpose
- Maintaining the design and its documentation in accordance with the applicable configuration management, change management and traceability processes
- Identifying and managing technical risks associated with the system development and system integration programs
- Maintain technical authority delegations as the business requires

About YOU
- Degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or equivalent with ability to obtain Charted Professional Engineer status
- Ability to direct and influence specialist multi-discipline, multi-site teams interfacing with a wide range of providers and customers
- Knowledgeable and experienced in the development and integration of complex System-of-systems equipment in the naval environment
- Knowledgeable and experienced in Combat System: design, sub-system and ship inter-relationships/trade-offs, and operational usage
- Understanding of Safety evaluation and legislation
- Extensive experience within the Engineering discipline with extensive experience in the Technical Development and Systems Design of engineering projects across the engineering lifecycle
- Broad experience across a number of Engineering Disciplines, including Hardware, Software and Systems Engineering
- An understanding of Systems Engineering practises and Engineering methods, and demonstrated Systems Engineering design and development skills and experience as applied to the development of military equipment and services, across the engineering lifecycle
- Extensive experience in effective use of Engineering Process, Methods, Tools and Infrastructure
- Ability to lead small to medium sized multi-disciplinary Engineering teams
- Ability to train and mentor engineers through superior team building skills
- Demonstrated superior communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with employees and customers at all levels
- Proven ability to function confidently within a project team environment
- Demonstrated superior problem solving skills
- Experience in liaison with the customers and sub-contractors on technical and schedule issues
- Demonstrated ability to contribute and work in a cross-functional team while ensuring specific responsibilities are achieved
