australia sydney contract negotiable**About you**
eSafety is seeking an experienced technology leader and passionate technologist to oversee its Strategy and Architecture practice, serving as a strategist and technical advisor to the senior executive. In this critical new role, you will work collaboratively across teams to mature and govern eSafety’s technology architecture, strategy and roadmap whilst helping foster a culture of innovation within the organisation in alignment with business goals.
You will have demonstrated experience leading through change, driving innovation, and maturing capabilities but with a practical, delivery focused mindset that is able to meet the organisation where it’s at on the journey. You will be excited about helping eSafety further develop its technology strategy while working effectively within a governance structure and shared ICT services model. Your strong combination of technical, communication (written and verbal) and people skills, along with your well-developed leadership abilities will make you a trusted source of guidance and support for your staff and key stakeholders across eSafety, including the Commissioner and senior executive.
You will be very comfortable and experienced in providing technical briefings, delivering presentations, and engaging with external stakeholders across government and industry. You will be confident in representing complex technical matters, be self-motivated to upskill in new areas and become the “resident expert” in emerging topics when required.
You will know how to communicate fluently with technical teams, transcending beyond “buzz words”, and using your experience to gain the trust and support of your colleagues, ensuring all solutions proposed are secure, supportable, and sustainable for operational teams.
A high level of interest in online safety matters and how technology can be used to enable and enhance regulatory operations is a must. Prior experience within a similar environment/role or with similar technology issues would be highly desirable.
**About the role**
As an innovative regulator, eSafety has a desire to be able to leverage new technology to bolster its regulatory operations, deliver user friendly digital products and services, whilst maintaining robust, secure, and fit-for-purpose core ICT platforms. As a result, eSafety requires an experienced senior technologist who understands how to design and implement digital transformation strategies within an organisation, bringing others on the journey whilst adhering to necessary government privacy and security guidelines.
This is a new position that will help shape the future direction of how technology services are delivered in close collaboration with Digital, Product and Data Managers. To achieve your objectives, you will also manage a small team comprising solutions architecture, cyber security and governance practitioners who you will lead toward delivery of clear objectives. It is expected that to start you will individually lead in the establishment of an enterprise
architecture, help improve technology governance and delivery processes, and define an innovation roadmap, providing recommendations that may lead to future resourcing if required.
As an experienced technology leader, you will promote and support innovation within the branch and the broader organisation, enabling optimal outcomes through technology for eSafety’s regulatory operations. For example, assessing use of cloud, AI and Machine Learning opportunities that may advance business outcomes, maturing the organisation’s data analytics capability, enhancing critical business systems and public facing digital products.
As a small organisation of 200 staff, you will be expected to be hands-on and able to produce compelling artefacts independently that can effectively communicate your strategies, roadmaps, and requirements. You will be a strong communicator, able to translate complex technical matters into plain speak that can be digested by non-technical staff. You will also be experienced in writing business documentation and performing routine budget, staff management and planning activities as expected from a management position within the APS.
You will often be drawn upon directly by the senior executive to provide technical advice on an array of technology topics related to both eSafety’s internal technology operations as well as its regulatory functions and external tech trends (see eSafety’s Tech Trends and Challenges). On a given day, this could include providing guidance to policy teams on how various technologies work (such as end-to-end encryption and age verification systems) research and development (or leading evaluations) on new technologies in order to provide trusted advice on an emerging technology issue, or developing new capabilities within the team to ensure eSafety maintains its position as an innovative, world leading regulator.
