The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Aboriginal Employment Programs Coordinator to provide a critical role in the Aboriginal Workforce Strategy Team.
This is a prioritised role for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, who will be given priority consideration as per the special measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.
About the business unit
The Aboriginal Workforce Strategy Team (AWST) sits within the People, Safety and Culture group and is responsible for the development and delivery of the department's Aboriginal Employment strategy and associated talent programs.
AWST provides ongoing support to Aboriginal employees and manages a range of Aboriginal employment initiatives. The AWST also contributes towards the innovation of new programs and policies to strengthen career development and cultural diversity and inclusion across the department.
About the role
The Aboriginal Employment Programs Coordinator will work closely with the Manager and Senior Aboriginal workforce Advisor by providing high level support across portfolios:
- Aboriginal Tertiary Scholarship program
- Aboriginal Youth Employment Scheme (YES) traineeship program
- Aboriginal Career Development Program
- Aboriginal Graduate Scheme
In addition, this role will be responsible for coordinating the support of various Aboriginal staff networks, including the Aboriginal Youth Network, to support the retention and career development of the department's Aboriginal employees.
This role will also contribute to a range of recruitment activities including participation on selection panels when required by Recruitment Services and community information sessions at various locations around the state. More broadly the Aboriginal Employment Programs Coordinator will represent the department and Aboriginal Workforce Strategy Team in promoting the organisation as an employer of choice for Aboriginal jobseekers.
This role involves occasional travel within Victoria.
**Some of your duties will include**:
- Project manage key employment and career development initiatives under the department's Aboriginal Employment and Career Strategy
- Successful program management and delivery of programs including regular reviews and assessment of the programs impacts, program reporting and data collation and representation of the department at Whole of Victorian Government Forums
- Provide advice and work collaboratively with business areas to identify, develop and implement innovative solutions that support departmental strategy across employment program services

- Facilitate and attend public information centres career expos and other relevant employment related events

About you
**To be successful in this role, you will have**:
- A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Victorian Aboriginal Community, both society and culture and the issues impacting on it
- A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with members of the Victorian Aboriginal community
- A demonstrated knowledge of the labour market, including the complexity of attracting and retaining Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees
- Practical experience in at least one employment related area, such as recruitment, learning and development, or generalist human resources, or strong community development/project management experience.
