Mount Gibson Iron Limited is an established independent Australian producer of premium quality direct shipping iron ore (DSO) with assets in the Kimberley and Mid-West regions of Western Australia.

Mount Gibson’s flagship operation is the Koolan Island mine, located approximately 140km north of Derby in the Buccaneer Archipelago in the Kimberley. The mine is Australia’s highest-grade producer of direct-shipping grade hematite, with an average Ore Reserve grade of 65.5% Fe and a current mine life of +5 years.

**About the role**:
We are now seeking to employ an experienced Environment and Community Superintendent at our Koolan Island Operation on a 8/6 (12-hour day) roster from Perth, Broome or Derby.

This position reports directly to the General Manager - Environment and Approvals and indirectly to the site GM and has three direct reports. You'll be responsible for managing and implementing environmental management tasks including monitoring, investigations and other operations to comply with government approvals and site operations

The position provides a unique opportunity to work in the spectacular Buccaneer Archipelago region of the Kimberley on a diverse range of issues including endangered species, marine, rehabilitation and heritage.

**Key tasks and responsibilities**
- Demonstrate a high regard to safety of self, personnel in work on operating sites and registered tenements.
- Work under instruction from general managers and with a site and organisational teams
- Provide technical support and guidance to management and with site superintendents and supervisors in scheduling, conduct and execution of mining activities according to approved Plans and SWIs. Key environmental factors include aquatic and terrestrial flora, vegetation, fauna as well as dust, quarantine, groundwater, hydrology, soils, noise and contamination.
- Making clear and concise communications and to write reports including formal compliance submissions submitted to DWER, DMIRS, DAWE (Fed) and DBCA.
- Lead community consultations and deliver communications and raise awareness relating to MGX activities and manage stakeholder interests including heritage.
- Act to implement inspection programs, routine monitoring and mitigation programs across the company’s operations to foster compliant outcomes.
- Implement environment awareness training and assist inductions for environment and cultural heritage matters
- Respond to Government departments, agencies and vested communities as needs arise.
- Occasional written and verbal reporting to Chief Operating Officer and Executive on the environmental performance and community matters re operational sites.

**To be successful in this role, you’ll need**:

- Tertiary qualifications in environmental science or similar
- Minimum 6-8 years plus industry experience
- Practical experience in environmental management and mine site operations in the WA resources sector.
- Demonstrated experience working in and motivating mine site teams.
- Effective working relationships with site operational and technical personnel and with corporate office approvals personnel.
- Well-developed interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
- Strong analytical and technical skills in an applicable specialty technical discipline
- Proficiency with MS Office suite.
