**The Role**
The APS 4 Assistant Work Health and Safety Officer role is critical to assisting Security and Estate Group (SEG) meet its work health and safety obligations; including Work Health and Safety governance, and coordination of WHS governance activities across SEG.
They will work in a small team who extract and analyse data, and develop WHS reports, briefs and dashboards. They will regularly undertake research and analysis of WHS data, and conduct reviews and assessments to improve health and safety outcomes across SEG.
The incumbent will have good attention to detail and be able to provide practical work health and safety expertise based on legislation, policy and procedures. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining records and sharing information such as lessons learned and Safety Alerts.
They will be accountable for coordinating work and contributing to the team while also making decisions relating to their areas of responsibility.
**About our Team**
The Directorate of Work Health and Safety (DWHS) provides advice on the impact of Work Health and Safety legislation, Codes of Practice, prescribed Australian Standards and Defence policy requirements.
DWHS provides input and information about Group and Defence WHS policy and procedures that support our business outcomes. DWHS is responsible for the coordination of work health and safety for the Group’s products, services and systems.
A critical facet of this endeavour is working with other groups and services within Defence and the Commonwealth WHS Regulator (Comcare) to remediate health and safety issues. DWHS is the custodian for SEG Safe, the Group WHS management system, and the SEG WHS Due Diligence Framework.
We are looking for a highly motivated and adaptable person to join the Directorate of WHS.
The successful applicant will:
- Be able to assist with the provision of accurate technical advice in relation to WHS matters.
- Have an eye for detail and be able to recognise and analyse critical WHS data and information.
- Be comfortable in coordinating workflows and monitoring simultaneous work packages to ensure tasks are completed to a schedule.
- Possess organisational and administrative skills with the ability to prepare correspondence on routine matters.
- Be self-motivated.
- Be able to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
