We were the first in Australia and New Zealand to attain the AWS Machine Learning Competency, and we're continuing to invest and grow our Data and ML practice. As part of this growth, we're looking for a Principal Data Consultant to join our very talented team.
**About the Role**
This is a role for a data expert that can get to the heart of a problem and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves. This role has 3 key focus areas: strategy, client advisory and delivery. We are looking for a passionate and experienced person who will be at the heart of our data ecosystem and ready to help nurture and grow opportunities, lead clients through their data discovery, as well as drive the delivery of solutions and mature our team capability.
Main responsibilities:
- Working with our Client Engagement team to identify and define opportunities for growth
- Working with Clients as a trusted advisor to understand their data vision and needs, and extend this into shaping and driving the approach on how to use data, develop backend systems and data models to serve the client needs, whilst being actively involved in the delivery process
- Designing, developing, testing, documenting and maintaining data models, reports and dashboards that meet business needs and requirements
- Designing, developing, testing, documenting and maintaining data pipelines across a range of technologies
- Understand and implement data governance requirements and ensure that technical risks and unknowns are addressed
- Help develop and foster a culture of data excellence across the organisation
- Mentor and coach internal developers to grow our data capability
**About You**
- Previous experience designing and delivering data solutions, ideally in a consulting environment
- Experience in varied forms of data infrastructure, including modern architectures like data mesh and data fabric
- Experience building scalable data pipelines and data models
- Experience in data visualisation and building reports
- A background in software engineering with thorough understanding of relevant tools, languages, frameworks and standards
- Awareness of big data frameworks - Spark, Hadoop, Flink
- Understanding of database architectures and approaches - OLAP/OLTP/HTAP, NoSQL, Document, RDBMS, KeyValue, wide column stores
- Experience across Google, AWS, Azure (Databricks, Confluent and Snowflake)
- Ability to discuss subtler dimensions of data - governance, compliance, discoverability, security
- Bonus points for experience in Machine Learning
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Experience with Agile methodologies and tools
- Experience working within professional services organisations
- Very comfortable navigating through ambiguity and leading others through ambiguity
