**About the Business Unit**:
Adoption Services Victoria is part of Courts, Civil and Criminal Law and is responsible for all services under the _Adoption Act 1984_ (the Act) including arranging adoption and supporting people affected by past adoption. This includes both direct service delivery and funding services. Services under the Act include:
- Supporting a parent considering placing a child for adoption
- Making decisions for a child under guardianship
- Providing reports to Court
- Assessing people to adopt who may be able to provide a family for children under guardianship
- Providing information to people affected by past adoption and assisting them to reconnect to family
**About the Role**:
Adoption Services Victoria employs seven Practice Leaders who engage in work across the business. All Practice Leaders must be able to support any of the services under the Act.
Some of your duties will include:
- Planning and managing casework and the day-to-day delivery of services to clients including, as required, the professional supervision of staff engaged in providing statutory adoption services to children, families, and applicants for adoption information
- Assisting in developing, coordinating, running, and evaluating adoption information and education programs, including specialised training for workers and other agencies/organisations about adoption, which may involve working some evenings and weekends
- Planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating case plans and short and long-term intervention strategies for clients; review assessments and recommendations made by others.

**About You**:
- Knowledge and expertise relevant to the area of adoption, including an understanding of the history of adoption and experience undertaking complex casework and assessments
- Experience dealing with associated issues relating to the placement of children in alternative home care and associated legislation including the _Adoption Act 1984_
- Qualifications/Requirements:_
- A recognised Social Work degree or a similar welfare or behavioural related degree which includes:
- a primary focus on child development, human behaviour, family dynamics and/or impacts of trauma; and preferably;
- a practical component such as counselling or case work practice.
