Sydney, Australia NSW Government -NSW Education Standards Authority Full time

**About us**

The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) is an independent statutory authority responsible for the curriculum, assessment, teacher accreditation and regulatory standards in NSW schools, and accreditation of early childhood educators. NESA is responsible for developing policies and initiatives for evaluating and improving quality teaching and student learning across all schools and school sectors. NESA was formally established on 1 January 2017, in response to the need to adopt a more strategic and outward-looking focus, greater clarity of regulatory roles and responsibilities, and streamlined processes and systems.

**Primary purpose of the role**

The Manager, Curriculum Development K-6 supervises and leads a cluster of Subject Matter Experts (SME) who are leading the development of K-6 syllabuses. The role requires close collaboration and shared responsibility with the syllabus development and curriculum reform teams for the development of syllabuses, support material, consistent reporting of consultation and syllabus implementation across a cluster of learning areas. The role contributes to meeting the objects of the curriculum reform based on the findings of the NSW Curriculum Review.

**Key accountabilities**

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

- Providing strong and effective leadership and management to support an SME team in the delivery of syllabuses that demonstrate a clear continuum of learning across K-12 within the announced curriculum reform timeframe across the KLA
- Providing operational oversight of the SME team for the delivery of various elements of the reform agenda
- Supporting and maintaining a consistent understanding of their role and ensuring a consistent high standard and quality in deliverables
- Fostering a positive, collaborative and respectful workplace culture while working in time-sensitive high stakes reform projects
- Working closely with the Curriculum Reform Division and other NESA units to ensure that syllabuses meet the reform agenda and are inclusive and accessible to all students especially Aboriginal students and students with a disability and provide authentic and manageable opportunities for learning across the curriculum
- Providing advice and expertise regarding aligning aspects of syllabuses with the findings of the Curriculum Review and the NSW Government response to the Review.
- Using technology effectively to support the syllabus development process.
- Contributing to other duties as required by the Director Curriculum Development K-6.

**Essential requirements**:

- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as education and/or educational leadership or equivalent knowledge and experience
- Extensive working knowledge and understanding of current and emerging curriculum and assessment legislation, policies, research, trends and issues relating to curriculum reform
- Expertise in curriculum for K-6
- Experience in curriculum/school leadership and/or project management

We are seeking someone who can demonstrate their proficiency in the focus capabilities (as highlighted in the role description) from their commencement in the role. All the capabilities listed in the role description will be assessed at different stages of the recruitment process. This assessment will determine your suitability for appointment and may assist in identifying any learning and development needs for you to reach your full potential in the role.

**Pre-screening questions**:
Answer the two pre-screening questions below - we are looking for you to demonstrate your competency in this focus capability. Answer with concrete examples and in no more than 400 words per question. Briefly describe the context of the situation(s), the actions that you took, the outcome of your efforts and what you learned from the experience.

Q1: Describe the processes, methods and/or techniques you have used in project management to work with people and deliver intended outcomes. How did you identify effective solutions and respond to changing priorities to ensure the successful delivery of the project?

Q2: Describe a stakeholder engagement process that you led in relation to the NES Primary Curriculum. How did you drive implementation of the change with the stakeholders? What kind of tools and approaches did you use to maximise the effectiveness of the engagements, and what was the result?

Under new employment legislation all current and new Public Service non-executive employees are employed at a classification level and assigned to a role rather than appointed to a position. Employees may be re-assigned to other roles at the same classification over time, in line with organisation priorities and/or personal development plans.

At NESA we endeavour to make roles flexible. While this role is advertised as full time, we will consider requests to undertake the work on a flexible, part
- share basis time or job-share basis.
