**Position Overview**:
The Defense Export Control Officer plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with Australian Defense Export Controls (DEC) and international export regulations. This position is suited for a professional who possesses a robust background in defense and/or trade compliance, and process optimization. Your expertise will facilitate the secure and lawful transfer of defense and dual-use technologies while managing risks associated with export classification, licensing, and technology transfers.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Oversee export classification and licensing processes to ensure compliance with both Australian and international regulations, including ITAR and EAR.
- Conduct internal audits and risk assessments while liaising with relevant authorities to maintain regulatory compliance.
- Develop and implement export control policies and deliver training programs to foster internal awareness and accountability.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to effectively manage permits, licensing, and compliance issues.
- Stay informed of regulatory changes and proactively address export control risks across various projects and operations.
- Drive continuous improvements in manufacturing processes to enhance quality, reduce waste, and facilitate product transitions.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by identifying hazards and working collaboratively to mitigate risks.
- Proven experience handling dual-use or military-grade equipment exports.
- In-depth knowledge of international controls such as US ITAR/EAR and EU dual-use regulations.
- Eligible for or currently holding an Australian Government security clearance.
- Experience with export compliance tools or ERP systems, such as SAP or Oracle.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration in cross-functional teams.
- A desire to mentor and guide junior team members, with aspirations for future leadership roles.
