Why this role matters

The Doorways program provides person centred care to community members experiencing financial or other forms of hardship through the provision of financial and material emergency relief. Case management is provided at some of the Doorways sites to engage people through early intervention as well as address long term disadvantage to break the cycle of poverty and alleviate financial hardship. Our practitioners are strength based and trauma informed in their practice to build individual capacity, resilience and wellbeing.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven Community Coordinator who will oversee and coordinate the Social Service delivery for the Salvation Army at the Miranda location in the Sutherland Shire. Working together with the Mission Leader at Miranda and other salvo locations to Ensure appropriate and professional social services are delivered to individuals and families in the community who require welfare support and creating a welcoming environment that facilitates further connection towards community and achieving the Salvation Army’s mission.

You will successfully
- Demonstrate ability to connect individuals and families in long term hardship to activities and services that promote social inclusion in Australian community
- Engage and connect with all persons coming for help and support with the intention of connecting them to each other and our mission
- Attending/helping and/or connecting with people from the programs and activities of Shire Salvos including but not exclusive to recovery church, Sunday Services, Salvo Stores, Community Events & activities, Community Welfare and any other programs or activities which connect people
- Understand and respect the values, beliefs and mission of The Salvation Army as a Christian movement
- Oversight the processes and supply of community assistance provided from the Shire Salvos Miranda site
- Oversight and coordinate the Community Co-op Partnership program that operates out of the Shire Salvos Miranda site weekly on a Tuesday
- Work closely with the Case Manager/ Doorways worker at Miranda and only case manage when required. This is to ensure the vast majority of case management is done by the Case Manager employee. Case plans are developed alongside the participant and tailored according to each Participant’s goals, background and needs; this is updated according to each contact/consultation, housing first principles are applied
- Provide Welfare assistance - assessment and referral as needed e.g. SAL connect, PLP, Moneycare, link to social programs, etc
- Attend and actively be a part of the weekly recovery church service held at Shire Salvos Miranda
- Engage in regular communication and collaboration with local agencies and services to strengthen the presence of Shire Salvos within the community with a particular focus on assisting victims of Domestic Violence. This may involve attending local interagency meetings, initiating joint events and partnerships, maintaining a list of local connections, and others
- Work with the Miranda Mission Leader to Coordinate Platform Nine housing partnership and tiny home
- Client information, reports and data collection should be entered and recorded into the SAMIS program consistently (including Christmas hamper data) in accordance within procedures and policies. Mandatory reporting processes are following in a timely manner in line with legislation
- Risk assessments and safety strategies are to be put in place prior to outreach support and home visits
- Trauma informed framework and housing first principles are applied
- Evidence of flexible, proactive, client-centred approach including inclusive practice to case work with participant rights being upheld, interactions are respectful and free from discrimination, with cultural needs being catered for.
- Be willing to undertake PLP training and run the PLP (both group and one-on-one) programs when required
- Wrap around supports are implemented and lead by the client, monitored and reviewed. Follow up of supports are essential
- Coordinate the Miranda volunteer process. This includes but is not limited to volunteer induction, and volunteer data input/ maintenance via the workday database
