**The Role**
This non-ongoing role involves working as part of a team at the Defence International Training Centre delivering English language courses to international students. The delivery is mostly face to face, with some possible remote delivery. The primary instructional tasks take place in the Language Training Section which offers courses that range from the Pre-Intermediate Level through to the Advanced Level.
The Language Training Section courses involve a mixed model of General and Academic English components. Some courses may also involve English for Specific Purposes components such as Aviation English, Military English, or English for Peacekeepers. Teacher interest in international relations and in current English Language Teaching (ELT) methods are key, as is a keen interest in professional development.
**About our Team**
The Language Training Section is responsible for all English language learning course deliverables at the Defence International Training Centre. There are also courses under the supervision of other sections such as the Teacher Training Section or the Preparatory Training Section that deliver training or academic preparation programmes that an APS 5 Language teacher will also support.
The team of language teachers therefore is a flexible and agile team working across sections. The team plays a pivotal role in language enhancement supporting cross-cultural awareness crucial to developing the ongoing relationship between Australia and international militaries.
We seek someone who is interested in gaining experience in the role of training in support of international relationships. They should be passionate about English language delivery to international students, be willing and able to engage adult students effectively in learning to all levels from Pre-Intermediate through to Advanced.
We require someone who wants to work as a member of a team and enjoys the collaborative aspect of a teachers’ staffroom, someone who is serious about their own professional development, and can support colleagues in theirs.
The background you would bring to this job will include experience in:
- Teaching English as a second or foreign language;
- Delivering and developing materials for both General English and English for Academic Purposes;
- Assessing English language competency;
- Working with students from a range of L1s;
- Working with teachers of English whose first language is not English and;
- Working in a Defence-related environment.
