**The Role**
This is a unique opportunity to put your passion for language teaching towards enhancing ADF capability and advancing Australia’s national interest. The APS 5 Japanese Language Teacher will prepare, develop and deliver Japanese language lessons for up to 20 hours of lessons per week. A flexible start date can be offered. - Work productively as part of a specialised language team consisting of Australian Public Servants and contractors.
- Develop Japanese language course content and assessment materials.
- Monitor the academic progress of students and provide timely and actionable individual feedback
- Review and implement continual improvement to course materials and assessments.
- Provide timely and accurate advice and guidance to the APS 6 Senior Language Teacher.
- Assist in the preparation and conduct of In-Country Training programs for students including travel to Japan for student assessment.
- Assist in the preparation and conduct of domestic cultural engagement activities for students.
- Identify and research teaching methodology improvement utilising new technologies.
- Other duties in line with the APS 5 Standard as directed.

This role includes opportunities to attend the in country training component of the course, delivered in Japan.

**About our Team**
The Japanese Language Department is responsible for the syllabus design, material development and delivery of the Japanese language courses to ADF personnel. The Japanese Language Department have a mindset of continuous improvement utilising new technologies to improve the language delivery experience for students. The Defence Force School of Languages (DFSL) delivers language and cultural training to select Australian Defence Force personnel.

You will be teaching highly engaged and motivated adult students who are all current serving ADF members.
- A high level of knowledge of Japanese and English language.
- Sound knowledge of different approaches to language teaching and embracing new technologies.
- Japanese teaching experience (preferable in an adult learning environment).
- Experience in syllabus design and material development.
- Applied knowledge of different approaches to language teaching Australian Citizenship is a requirement for the role.
