**About us**
The Department of Treasury and Finance provides economic, financial and resource management advice to help the Victorian Government deliver its policies. We strive for excellence in financial and economic management to improve the lives of all Victorians.
**Commercial Transactions**
The Commercial Transactions team provides transaction advisory services and advice on whole of State negotiations and commercial transactions. This includes identifying asset reform opportunities to optimise the State's balance sheet management as well as overseeing post transaction governance for complex commercial transactions.
Our objective is to ensure the benefits, costs and risks are understood so that Government is able to make informed decisions.
The team has broad expertise in a range of disciplines including project management and finance, economics, finance and accounting, policy development, industrial relations and law. As a result, we can quickly provide concise, considered and expert advice on complex matters.
**About the role**
Reporting to the Director, Commercial Transactions, we have two 12-month fixed term opportunities with the following responsibilities:
- Undertake research and qualitative and quantitative analysis.
- Prepare clear and succinct memorandums, reports and advice on complex matters.
- Proactively provide solutions to issues.
- Influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the team in complex commercial negotiations.
- Be responsive and efficient.
- Provide strategic advice on the risks and benefits of implementing initiatives or policies.
- Establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
**About you**
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to analyse large volumes of financial and commercial information and use it to provide clear and robust advice.
- Ability to make rational decisions based on incomplete information.
- Ability to communicate clearly and directly in writing and verbally.
- A proven ability to effectively represent the Department and to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, timelines and priorities in a rapidly changing environment and remain calm and display professionalism in stressful situations.
Experience and qualifications
The following would be well regarded:
- Tertiary or other recognised qualification in Commerce, Economics, Technology, Law, Science or Engineering.
- Experience in mergers and acquisitions, investment banking or project finance.
- Experience in understanding and interpreting financial models and balance sheets.
- Experience in procurement initiation and delivery consistent with organisational policies.
- Experience in developing and preparing documents for both internal and public distribution.
- Experience in working as part of a team that carries out diverse and varied business activities.
