About the Role

As the
**Head of Development, **your mission is to drive a culture of philanthropy across the Australian Museum. Reporting to the Director Public Affairs and Development, the Head of Development manages a small but dynamic team to secure a pipeline of philanthropic support with a focus on major gifts from individual donors, trusts and foundations and bequests for both strategic projects and an ambitious $80M capital campaign.

Working strategically with the Australian Museum Foundation and the Australian Museum’s executive and management team you will identify prospects, design compelling proposals, secure major gifts and steward donors for the long-term benefit of the Australian Museum (AM).

You will oversee the development of engaging cases for support, products, programs, and retention journeys to transform the Australian Museum as it marks its 200th anniversary in 2027. The philanthropy team also supports the operations of the Australian Museum Foundation who receive donations from individual donors and provide significant support to the Australian Museum.

You will oversee all donor engagement and communications management including prospect tracking, donor plans, collateral development, donor communications, events, administration and financial reporting.

The role is offered on a full-time ongoing basis, and you will receive a competitive annual salary package range between $134,411 - $155,445 plus employer's contribution to superannuation (currently 11.0%) and annual leave loading.

About you

We are seeking someone to lead the development strategy to secure annual and capital funding to set targets and motivate a dynamic and professional team.

To be successful in this role you will possess:

- Senior leadership experience in managing a team within a limited resource environment
- Experience in managing donor and supporter relationships
- Proven success in raising significant funds from private sources, ideally for a capital campaign
