**The Role**
The Mutual Obligation and Compliance Policy team is in Targeted Employment Policy Branch. The Branch is responsible for developing employment and active labour market policies to increase employment outcomes for job seekers, particularly disadvantaged job seekers. The team is responsible for providing evidence-based policy advice and developing policy on job seekers’ requirements while receiving payments (mutual obligations). The team also provides support and advice across the Department.

A key policy focus of the team is advising on options to incentivise participation, while minimising unintended or unnecessary impacts on unemployment payment recipients.

The team’s work is often high profile and affects hundreds of thousands of people.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
Responsibilities of the Assistant Director may include:

- Developing policy advice relating to mutual obligations and job seeker compliance policy, including in the development of new policy proposals and/or Cabinet submissions.
- Developing talking points, briefings or responses to questions relating to mutual obligation requirements and compliance for the Government and the executive.
- Liaising with internal stakeholders (such as legal and program areas) and external stakeholders (such as Services Australia, Department of Social Services, National Indigenous Australians Agency).
- Advising on mutual obligation requirements and compliance and interactions with legislation.
- Research and developing a further evidence base relating to mutual obligation requirements and job seeker compliance policy.
- Supervising junior members of the team.
