**About the role**
Reporting to the Corporate Communications and External Affairs Manager, the newly-created Communications Officer role will assist in the delivery of communications and engagement activities to support Southern Ports’ objectives and strategic direction.
Ideally suited to a recent graduate, the Communications Officer will be responsible for management of communications requests from internal teams, media monitoring, managing key communications’ logistics, processes and assets (including databases and supplier coordination), as well as supporting the wider Communications team with content development and scheduling.
The successful applicant will be required to work with internal stakeholders at each of the Southern Ports locations so flexibility to travel is required. The successful applicant can be located at any of the three regional ports or in our West Perth office.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Work with Southern Ports’ various business areas to support communications activities and strengthen Southern Ports’ brand.
- Work as an integral part of the Communications team to support a range of internal and external campaigns, events and content development.
- Contribute to external campaigns and events.
- Manage Southern Ports’ media monitoring process and outputs.
- Liaise with photography, videography, graphic design and other external suppliers as required.
- Manage Southern Ports’ digital media library including the approval of new assets.
- Coordinate design management where required.
- Assist in advertising placements and coordination.
- Support the Events Officer and Community Relations and Partnerships Manager to deliver events and manage merchandise/equipment.
- Work with Community Relations and Partnerships Manager to maintain key databases.
**Experience and Requirements**
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or equivalent.
- Experience using traditional and digital communication and engagement platforms.
- Experience in copywriting and production is desirable.
- Experience in using content management systems and social media platforms is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated understanding of corporate communications tools including those for web, social and print mediums.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate at all levels with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Intermediate to high level skill in using the Microsoft Office suite of software.
- Intermediate level of skill in using Adobe Creative Suite - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere Pro.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks daily and achieve objectives within set priorities and timeframes.
- Excellent project management and administrative skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Practical understanding of OH&S practices as they relate to the workplace.
- WA C class driver’s licence.
**Requirements**:
To be eligible for this full-time role, applicants must provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
The successful applicant must have a current WA driver’s licence, be able to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Access Card and undergo a pre-employment medical assessment including drug and alcohol testing.
