The Finance Division supports the department to be efficient, effective, and financially sustainable through our business partnerships, the Finance Service Charter and our specialist centres of excellence. The division provides financial and management advice and support to the department, the offices of the minister and assistant ministers and to industry stakeholders. The division delivers on business objectives through the provision of high-quality customer service, advice and support and a nationally consistent approach to business, with consideration to the government’s tight fiscal environment, its significant reform agenda and the department’s imperative to maintain financial sustainability.
The Financial Management Branch supports DCCEEW to achieve its vision and outcomes by ensuring financial sustainability and strong fiscal governance, supported by efficient financial systems and processes. The branch manages DCCEEW’s operating, capital and equity budgets and average staffing levels; assists our executive managers with budget setting and management, provides monthly reporting, and advice on divisional finances and resourcing; provides system administrative support for our corporate systems; prepares DCCEEW’s financial statements, manages external financial reporting and taxation obligations, and maintains DCCEEW’s asset register; applies and manages DCCEEW’s Investment Framework covering capital and operating budgets and equity; and support and delivers change, communications, and training for key branch and broader corporate projects and activities.
The Financial Reporting Team is responsible for financial accounting and reporting activities, including end of month reporting, reconciliations and the preparation of the department’s annual financial statements. The team also has responsibility for taxation and asset management, and is the liaison point for the auditors for the annual financial statements audit.
**The Job**
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring delivery of timely and accurate monthly reports and annual financial statements, including all supporting documentation.
- Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as program area experts, external valuers and the ANAO.
- Managing the assets accounting function in the financial management system (Technology One).
- Overseeing taxation including the provision of general taxation advice and the preparation of the Fringe Benefits Tax return, monthly Business Activity Statement and yearly TPAR report.
- Providing leadership to a small team, including the management of the team workload, providing guidance and direction, capability development and performance management.
- Driving innovation with continuous improvements in financial management and business processes
