Melbourne, Australia Plan International Full time

The Organisation

Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children’s rights and equality for girls.

We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it’s girls who are most affected.

Working together with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges facing girls and all vulnerable children.

We support children’s rights from birth until they reach adulthood. And we enable children to prepare for - and respond to - crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge.

We have been building powerful partnerships for children for over 85 years, and are now active in more than 80 countries.

The Opportunity

Once in a decade opportunity to be part of the Executive team transforming Plan in Australia (PIA) into a next generation social impact organisation brilliantly partnering to drive systemic change for children, young people and for girls. As the Deputy CEO, Impact to Scale you will lead PIA’s efforts to scale impact through its international development and humanitarian programs, partnerships, grants and contracts with international development institutions and large-scale impact models including how we measure and communicate areas of significant change and positive social impact in the world.

You will oversee the growth and consolidation of PIA’s development-humanitarian portfolio to achieve the maximum positive impact for girls, boys and young people. In doing so you will develop and implement ways of working to shift power and resources to PIA partners and local civil society actors. You will demonstrate the ability to develop and sustain first-rate strategic partnerships with DFAT, funding and sector partners, Plan International Global Hub, country offices and other relevant stakeholders.

Who are we?

Plan International is a global not-for-profit, working to change the world so that all children can live happy and healthy lives, and so that girls in all their diversities can take their rightful place as equals.

At Plan International Australia, we celebrate diversity. We deeply believe all different opinions and experiences will enrich our team and represent our beneficiaries and partners across the globe. Our commitment to an inclusive workplace culture means we embrace working with all sectors of the community.

For 85 years we’ve worked hand-in-hand with local communities, so babies can survive their first 1000 days, so children can learn in safe environments, so girls can strive for work outside the home, so young people can speak up for their rights. We know that girls are the most marginalised by poverty, and for too long have been held back from reaching their full potential. This is why we work with all children to solve poverty but especially girls. We have a long history, but our approach is new. We’re secular, and we view the children, families and local communities we work with as our partners and our equals.

Possibility. Opportunity. Equality. Partnership. Love. Humanity. This is what we stand for.

What it’s really like;
An average day in the PIA Executive Leadership team (ELT) is quite varied - no day will be quite the same, but throughout your time, we will see you performing these duties:
Working as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, setting the organisational and Impact to Scale strategy and ensuring whole-of-organisation alignment around programmatic implementation and results.
Acting as a spokesperson and Ambassador for Plan International Australia when required with the media, donors and investors.
Developing and generating support and investment in large-scale social impact models
Ensuring that PIA is well-placed to deliver on its role in tackling climate change by developing effective programmatic responses with children and young people.
Undertaking advocacy to change systems and ways of working to empower and support local actors and decision making closer to the point of impact.
Sustaining and growing PIA’s institutional and grant income so that PIA’s international development and humanitarian capability can continue to deliver transformative impact for girls, boys and young people.
Leading and supporting two high-performing teams
Ensuring a healthy business development pipeline and the optimum mix of income and grant types for the PIA’s business model
Representing the views of PIA in key global and Plan International meetings and projects and advocating for changes that improve impact for children and young people and result in better financial sustainability, legitimacy and relevance for Plan International as a whole.
