**Alfred Health**

Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne, from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Point-of-Care Officer, on a full-time fixed term basis, to support the Point-of-Care Coordinator, Alfred Pathology Service with the establishment of the point-of-care service at the Western Health.
- ** Full-time Fixed Term ending October 2025**:

- ** Grade 2 Scientist (RY4-RY7)**:

- ** Alfred Hospital, Point-of-Care Service**

**Department Summary**:
Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership to deliver a Shared Pathology Service (SPS). This partnership is aligned with the Victorian Government’s wider Pathology system reform to create new public pathology networks. We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services.

Pathology services are provided from two main laboratories (The Alfred in Prahran and Monash Medical Centre in Clayton), and six branch laboratories (Casey Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Moorabbin Hospital, Sandringham Hospital, Caulfield Hospital, Wonthaggi Hospital and Victorian Heart Hospital). In addition, there are 21 collection centres and rooms spread across Southeast Melbourne and South Gippsland, with the furthest one located in Yarram. The SPS is currently planning to expand services to Western Health (WH) by late 2025. In addition, following the recommendation to form local health service networks by the Department of Health, Alfred Health will be merging with Peninsula Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health and Kooweerup Regional Health Services, effective from 1 January 2026.

**The Role**:
The Point-of-Care Officer will support the Point-of-Care Coordinator, Alfred Pathology Service and the Transition Operations Manager (WH) with the verification and installation of all point-of-care devices (POCD) across Western Health wards, clinics, the New Footscray Hospital (NFH), and Sunshine (SH) Laboratory’s. The incumbent will support the Point-of-Care Coordinator in ensuring that all POCD are set-up, and maintained in alignment with SPS Point-of-Care (POC) policies and the National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) Requirements for Point of Care Testing (Second Edition, 2021).

The role will encompass responsibilities such as coordinating staff training, including WH clinicians and nursing staff, and documentation of all training records. Additionally, the Point-of-Care Officer will oversee instrument maintenance during the transition period, manage reagents and consumable pre-acceptance testing, and ensure compliance with Quality Assurance Programs (QAPs) for all POCD.

**Position Requirements**:

- Bachelor of Science or Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a pathology laboratory in a scientific, point-of-care, or quality assurance role or similar.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Excellent negotiating and stakeholder management skills.

**Desirable**:

- Previous experience managing Point of Care devices.
- An understanding of ISO 15189, NATA and NPAAC guidelines related to Point-of-Care testing.

**Staff Benefits**:
5 weeks of annual leave + 13 additional days off (ADO's) per year
Salary packaging is available via Maxxia to maximise take-home salary
Access to health and well-being incentives such as the Fitness Passport
