**The Role**
The Force Preservation and Assurance Team in Army Headquarters is seeking a motivated and experienced Assistant Director to support the development of Safety Policy and Serious Incident Management (SIM).

The Assistant Director Work Health and Safety (AD WHS) position will assist in the management of interactions and information between safety regulators (COMCARE and ARPANSA) for Army, including incidents, proactive investigations, liaison forums and committees. This is a key reputation-management enabler for Army, where this role is required to deal with complexity, confidentiality, sensitive issues, legalities, Defence and Army policy which best represent Army’s interests.

In addition, the Assistant Director will play a key role in supporting the Director - Workforce Preservation and Assurance in the ongoing development of a number of initiatives including the Soldier Centric Safety System and the psychosocial hazard set.

The AD WHS role will be achieved through the following:

- Oversee and management, coordination, implementation and close-out of Army’s response to safety regulator incidents, investigations and inspections.
- Management of Army’s response to legal proceedings launched by safety regulators.
- Maintenance of effective liaison and working relations with the safety regulators and Defence stakeholders.
- Maintenance of a 24 hour, 7 day on call system for all safety incident management.
- Development and maintenance of Army’s safety incident management policy.
- Contribution to Army’s input to the Defence WHS Annual Report, Defence WHS Committee, Army Preparedness Steering Group, Army Safety Advisory Panel, Army Governance Working Group and Army Safety Working Group.
- Supporting senior officer attendance at senior committees and supporting sub-committees/working groups, such as Enterprise Business Committee, Defence WHS Board, Army Preparedness Steering Group, and the Defence/Comcare Liaison Forum.

**About our Team**
The Force Preservation and Assurance Team forms part of the Defence Landworthiness Team within the Land Capability Division and is responsible for ensuring that our soldiers are not exposed to risks and hazards unnecessarily.

Health and safety is a fundamental input to Army capability and integral to the way we conduct operations within Defence. Every Army member, Australian Public Service (APS) worker, contractor, volunteer, cadet, reservist and visitor engaged in Army business is encompassed by the Defence Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS).

The team forms part of the Defence Landworthiness Branch, which brings together a range of central workforce preservation and assurance functions supporting Head Land Capability and the wider Army.
