Newmont Australian Operations are located in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and New South Wales with roles in operations, projects, and exploration. Regional Support is provided from our offices in Subiaco and Melbourne.
Opportunity
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Develop and update standards and guidelines to enhance tailings, and water dam management practices.
- Implement tools and processes to optimize the performance and management of TSFs, and water-retaining dams.
- Conduct risk assessments for TSFs and WSFs, including supporting the implementation of risk mitigation action plans.
- Act as a corporate liaison with engineering firms, providing technical reviews and guidance on geotechnical, hydrological, and hydrogeological aspects of data collection, design, construction, operation, and closure of TSFs, heap leach facilities, and WSFs.
- Support strategic life-of-mine and life-of-asset tailings management planning, including evaluating and implementing innovative technologies for safe closure.
- Mentor, train, and develop team members globally, leading workshops and team meetings to advance best practices in tailings management and dam safety.
- Drive research and innovation in tailings and dam safety, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support the implementation of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM).
Role location can be flexible across our support hubs in Perth, Brisbane or Melbourne. Due to the nature of the role, working with varied time zones will be required as will occasional travel to Newmont sites or offices.

About You
This role is ideal for a technically-minded tailings expert with:
- Expertise in geotechnical, civil, or geological engineering.
- Competence in tailings facility design, management, surveillance, and risk management.
- Experience in planning, design, permitting, construction, operation, and closure of tailings facilities.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
- Proficiency in designing standards, systems, and tools for TSF and WSF governance.
Other specialized knowledge of interest includes; soil mechanics, embankment design and construction, site and material investigation and characterization, water management and balance, tailings technologies and management practices.
