The Protective Security team holds a crucial responsibility in overseeing the department's physical and personnel security obligations under the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
Our primary mission is to safeguard the department’s people, information and resources from potential threats which could detrimentally impact the Australian Government’s and/or the department’s productivity and reputation, as well as the safety of our employees.
We employ a comprehensive approach to security, ensuring robust protection through close collaboration with key stakeholders, including cyber security, property, WHS and fraud. This integrated effort allows us to address and mitigate diverse security risks efficiently.

In this role, you will deliver physical security functions in accordance with the department’s Protective Security Policy and the Protective Security Policy Framework. You will monitor and action requests for secure access containers, key safes, physical security repairs and maintenance and building access controls. You will undertake administrative duties including processing staff exit forms, updating and maintaining asset registers, and responding to queries and requests for information sent to the team’s group mailbox and the security helpdesk.
**What will you do?**:
The key duties of the position include:
- Monitor and action requests for secure access containers, key safes, physical security repairs and maintenance, building access controls and off-boarding forms.
- Update departmental record keeping systems with relevant information, including secure container and keys asset registers.
- Support the Protective Security team to ensure security practices are maintained across all departmental sites (Canberra, interstate and overseas).
- Managing a diverse workload and competing priorities in a busy team environment.
- Undertaking administrative support activities that include, but are not limited to:
- the security breach database;
- on-boarding/offboarding new starters in building access control systems;
- issuing access passes and provisioning access to departmental sites;
- Recommending changes to update existing security policies and work instructions.
- Prioritise workload and triage requests for assistance, communicate with stakeholders from across the department and with external service providers.
- Prepare internal communications and advice for publication on the intranet, with guidance and approval from more senior staff.
