**Your day as an Advisor**
In this role, you will develop and implement strategies, frameworks, and reforms that directly impact First Nations people and communities, aiming to improve policy advice and public investment decisions in New South Wales. You will provide advice to the government on various investment and policy proposals, influencing decision-making from the centre of government. This role supports Treasury’s commitments under Closing the Gap, including implementing First Nations budget reforms.
Your work will identify effective methods for improving outcomes for First Nations people and build capacity within Treasury and across the NSW government sector to achieve these goals in partnership with First Nations communities. The position requires a high degree of First Nations cultural capability, demonstrated experience working with First Nations communities, and a deep understanding of the First Nations policy landscape.
Treasury is dedicated to building genuine and respectful partnerships with First Nations people and communities, as reflected in its recently released ‘Innovate’ Reconciliation Action Plan, which outlines the reconciliation journey and future commitments in partnership with First Nations people and staff members.

**What you can bring to the role.**
- A high degree of First Nations cultural competency.
- Knowledge of, and previous experience working on, First Nations-related issues and with First Nations organisations, representative bodies or communities.
- A basic understanding of, or ability to learn about, public sector financial management and NSW government budget processes.
- Demonstrated research, analytical, conceptual and strategic thinking skills, including an ability to use quantitative information.
- Demonstrated ability to engage, negotiate and influence in dealings with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong communication and strategy skills and ability to work collaboratively across multiple stakeholders.
- Sound project and time management capabilities.
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in economics, finance, public policy or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
