This is a 12-month role commencing in early February 2025. It is ideally suited to a surgeon that has recently been awarded a Fellowship in General Surgery (or will be prior to the commencement of employment) and is seeking clinical experience in emergency General Surgery as well as either Upper-Gastrointestinal and Hepato-Pancreatic-Biliary surgery (UGI/HPB), or Breast and Endocrine Surgery.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state. This role has been established to improve the delivery of General Surgical services to patients and assist in the co-ordination and training of surgical Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) and Registrars.

Some of the clinical work in this role involves managing acute / emergency cases as part of the Department of General Surgery’s Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU). There is also involvement in outpatient and elective services.

There may also be the opportunity to be involved with other teaching and research activities.

**The Role**
- Duties include the following:

- Clinical activities:

- Operating in the Main Theatre Suite.
- Performing endoscopies in Day Procedure Unit.
- Seeing patients in Outpatient Clinic.
- Ward Rounds / Post-operative reviews.
- Managing emergency cases (during and out of hours).
- Provide consultative service for other specialty units.
- Supervise the clinical work of the junior medical staff in Unit.
- Non-clinical activities:

- Participation in research
- Teaching (including UTAS students, JMOs and surgical trainees)
- Coordinating and contributing to Morbidity and Mortality meetings and/or clinical audits
- Other administrative roles / committee membership opportunities

**Salary**
- Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award_

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $210,000 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $288,000 with further salary increments available.
