The General Counsel team supports the firm’s senior management, partners, lawyers and staff with important risk management and professional practice matters.

The team forms part of the firm’s broader Risk & Legal Excellence team, which combines a number of functions to ensure a coordinated approach to risk management and excellence aligned with the firm’s strategic ambition.

About the role

The role of Paralegal is to provide support to the General Counsel team in their role of ensuring compliance with the firm’s legal and professional obligations, internal policies and risk management strategies.

This paralegal role will provide assistance across a diverse range of matters, including:
Enhancing the firm’s database of client engagement agreements and related information
Improving guidance on the firm’s policies, procedures and protocols
Reviewing and advising on client tenders, policies/codes and other requirements
Assisting with due diligence and conflicts checking on prospective new clients and matters
Researching legal issues and supporting risk management innovation and process improvements

There is also the opportunity to be involved with special projects during an exciting period for the firm, as we strive to become the leading law firm in Australia.

About you

This role would suit a motivated and proactive individual who has completed (or working towards) a degree or other qualification in Law, and who can demonstrate:
Strong attention to detail, demonstrated by consistent accuracy in written and oral communication
Good analytical, research and writing skills
Good problem solving skills, including ability to think laterally and consider alternatives
Good judgement, with ability to determine appropriate course of action in a diverse range of situations
Some experience as a paralegal or other relevant experience in a legal corporate or professional services environment
