This role involves working collaboratively with key stakeholders—both within the organisation and externally, including Transport for NSW (TfNSW)—to deliver the ambitious NSW Zero Emission Buses Program.

In this position, you will lead Busways’ ZEB transition project, the first stage involves converting diesel and natural gas bus depot assets in Greater Sydney to zero emissions technology - an important step to enable the introduction of new Zero Emission Buses into the NSW public transport fleet.

**Key Stakeholder/Project Interfaces**

Internal:

- Executive team
- Cross-departmental teams: Depot Infrastructure & Power, Performance Monitoring and Technology, Maintenance, Operations and Yard Fleet, Commercial, and Legal

External:

- Transport for NSW
- Suppliers (manufacturers, contractors, energy distributors, and others)

**Role Responsibilities**

This role requires an adaptable individual who embraces change and builds strong relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Head of Assets, Safety & South Australia, your key responsibilities include:

- Acting as the primary point of contact for all ZEB-related matters, both internally and externally.
- Liaising with clients and stakeholders to manage expectations, ensuring clear communication on project progress and developments while representing Busways’ best interests.
- Serving as a key member of the ZEB Steering Committee, managing the project and coordinating cross-departmental needs.
- Leading ZEB solution planning initiatives, including charging solutions, depot designs, bus selection, and commercial proposals.
- Overseeing the approved ZEB transition project, ensuring daily budget management and adherence to cost limits.
- Developing and implementing best practices, processes, and systems, including the integration of software for data management and reporting.
- Establishing and enforcing safety protocols for electric bus operations, ensuring compliance and a zero-incident rate.
- Managing day-to-day project activities, including identifying and resolving risks and issues, and ensuring effective communication and coordination across teams.
- Supporting staff training programs on electric bus technologies and safety protocols.
- Assisting in developing and monitoring KPIs related to electricity consumption and operational efficiency.
- Collaborating with infrastructure teams to ensure charging systems are aligned with schedules.
- Coordinating with maintenance teams and vendors to meet service delivery standards.
- Performing ad-hoc tasks and other duties as required.

**Role Requirements**

The **Busways** leadership team has identified the following core capabilities as essential for success in this role and the ZEB transition program:

- **Experience in managing complex infrastructure projects**: Proven expertise in planning and delivering complex projects, preferably for energy, transport or urban related assets.
- **Project and program management outcomes-focused approach**: Ability to manage an agile and dynamic program incorporating emerging technologies.
- **Experience in public transport and renewable energy transition**: Prior bus or public transport experience or a strong passion for this and the energy transition the sector is going through is key
- **Understanding of the commercial and contractual landscape**: Familiarity with delivering services and working in partnership with public sector organisations, is valuable as this will be key to the success of the program.
- **Commitment to professional and career development**: While the ZEB transition will be the initial focus, Busways is seeking someone who is eager to grow professionally and progress their career within the organisation.
