**The Role**

The APS6 Photographer (Imagery Manager) within the Defence News Bureau is primarily responsible for co-leading the Department of Defence’s central stills imagery section.

You will coordinate the team’s daily workflow, including processing public affairs product, managing photographic tasks, handling copyright matters, prioritising requests for support, and liaising with key stakeholders.

Critical accountabilities are to provide quality assurance relating to technical and metadata standards, ensure appropriate clearances of product, and coordinate the timely and effective release of imagery and associated public affairs content.

You will be involved in managing a digital asset management system and providing training to personnel on the use of the system. APS6 and APS5 Photographers provide high-quality public affairs photographic support to the Department, including the Senior Leadership and Defence Ministers.

The APS5 position is also responsible for the receipt, processing, editing and quality control of imagery, and liaises with stakeholders to ensure photographic tasks are appropriately supported. Both roles involve some after-hours and weekend work as part of the team’s on-call roster. Occasional travel, sometimes at short notice, is also required.

**About our Team**
The APS6 and APS5 Photographers work in the Digital Media section within the Defence News Bureau, which delivers central public affairs content from photography, video, social and news services.

The Bureau’s multidisciplinary team creates, processes, publishes and disseminates dynamic public affairs product to support Defence’s communication narrative. It closely engages with key stakeholders, particularly within Military Public Affairs and embedded communication teams, to coordinate the release of product into the public domain.

The team sits in the Media and Information Disclosure Branch, which is part of Ministerial and Executive Coordination and Communication. The Branch is responsible for day-to-day media and communication operations across Defence.

You will be passionate about communicating with imagery, enjoy a consistently high-tempo work environment and excel at managing multiple priorities. You will have the following skills and abilities:

- Strong technical photographic skills and the ability to provide technical feedback to the wider Defence public affairs workforce.
- An in-depth knowledge of photographic requirements such as metadata, copyright, archiving and digital asset management systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good judgement to manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines
- The ability to build positive, collaborative working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to anticipate and respond to diverse stakeholder needs and expectations, including Ministers and members of the Defence Senior Leadership Group, making logical connections of emerging issues across the enterprise.
- The ability to operate effectively as a team player.
- Initiative, flexibility and a demonstrated capacity to solve problems under pressure.
