The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is seeking to recruit Protective Security Officers to fill a number of roles covering **Personnel Security**, **Physical security** and **Security Governance**. Positions are ongoing, permanent positions at the APS5 classification level and based in our Canberra Office in Belconnen.
**About the roles**
Responsibilities of all roles include:
- manage (or the ability to manage) agency protective security staff
- contribute to the development of agency security plans, policies and procedures
- contribute to protective security procurement processes
- provide advice on ABS protective security policy and guidelines
- assist in the preparation of security reports.
Responsibilities specific to the
**Personnel Security** role include:
- assist with the development and delivery of security awareness training program
- provide briefings and advice to agency personnel, including briefings to staff located or travelling overseas
- liaise with the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) to achieve security clearance outcomes for the ABS.
Responsibilities specific to the **Physical Security **role include:
- liaise with emergency services, agency service providers, clients and stakeholders
- provide security support and advice for office refurbishments or green-field sites
- support and manage ABS guarding services
- support and manage the ABS’ SCEC locksmithing services.
Responsibilities specific to the **Security Governance** role include:
- coordinate and conduct security audits
- liaise with ICT staff and managers on computer and communications security
- develop and maintain external and internal security related networks.
**What we are looking for (selection criteria)**
To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience relevant for one or all roles:
- demonstrated experience in one or more roles relevant to protective security including security governance and information security, physical security system administration and zone compliance, and personnel security
- an ability to work as a member of a team that provides support and guidance to protect the ABS’s people, information and assets
- good verbal and written communication skills, problem solving and demonstrated attention to detail
- negotiation, conflict resolution, networking and representational skills
- an ability to support specialist protective security projects to meet compliance requirements and manage security risks
- qualifications and / or experience in a protective security environment within a government environment are highly desirable, including (but are not limited to):
- Certificate IV in Government Security
- Certificate IV in Government Security (Personnel Vetting)
- Diploma of Security and Risk Management
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Government Investigations.
