**Company Description**
The BCCC is an independent body that monitors compliance with the Banking Code of Practice (the Code).
The BCCC is made up of an independent Chair, a banking industry representative and a consumer representative. The role of the BCCC is to monitor Code compliance and promote best practice Code implementation to improve standards of service in the Australian banking industry - ultimately helping banks to create a better banking experience for customers.
To improve banks’ code compliance the BCCC:
- examines bank's practices
- identifies and prioritises industry wide, serious and systemic issues
- recommends improvements to bank practices
- sanctions banks for serious compliance failures, and
- consults with stakeholders and the public, and keeps them informed.
The BCCC’s day-to-day work is supported by a secretariat at the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). The secretariat provides operational and administrative support under a service agreement between the Australian Banking Association (ABA) and AFCA. This agreement, along with the BCCC Charter protects the independence of the BCCC’s governance, processes and decision-making.
The Banking Code Compliance Committee (BCCC) is currently seeking to appoint an **Independent Chair**, to lead the Committee, for a fixed term of three years with the option for re-appointment.
**Typically, in this role you will**:
- Lead the BCCC in fulfilling its responsibilities under the Code and Charter, ensuring it functions effectively.
- Set the agenda and preside over BCCC meetings.
- Facilitate productive, focused and orderly discussions and decision-making, allowing all members to contribute and be heard.
- Be the liaison between the BCCC and the Code secretariat’s management team.
- Represent the BCCC externally at industry events, conferences, stakeholder meetings or in the media.
- Act as the principal point of contact for stakeholders including the ABA, AFCA, and regulators including ASIC, APRA and AUSTRAC.
**Qualifications**
To be successful in this role, you’ll come equipped with:
- Relevant experience and demonstrated success in senior leadership roles, particularly in governance, regulatory, or compliance-focused positions in industry, commerce, law, public administration or government service.
- Proven track record of leading boards, committees, or similar governance bodies, with an emphasis on independent oversight and ethical decision-making.
- Extensive experience in engaging and managing relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge and experience of financial services markets, particularly banking, would be desirable.
- Confident and superior communication to effectively represent the work of the BCCC in a range of events and forums.
- High level critical and analytical thinking to support the BCCC in setting and achieving its strategic goals.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to support a positive, respectful and inclusive environment.
