Context
**Country Office with Resource Mobilization Function**
IOM Canberra is one of the Country Offices with Partnerships and Advocacy Functions (COPA) in IOM which has additional responsibilities to coordinate substantial funding for IOM’s activities worldwide by ensuring effective fundraising and liaison with donors including the private sector. With this responsibility, IOM Canberra supports the development of funding policies, establishes priorities and procedures, and prepares proposals and develops fundraising strategies and mechanisms for programmes and projects in line with the Organization’s strategic focus and priorities.
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Mission in Canberra, Australia and in close coordination with the Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Unit and Resource Mobilisation Division at Headquarters, as well as the Regional Office, the National Private Sector Liaison Officer in Australia will develop partnerships with the private sector stakeholders and actors to raise funds, foster change in corporate values and practices; enhance protection of migrants’ rights; generate innovative technical partnerships that capitalize upon business expertise and capabilities and grow flexible funding that can support programme implementation and impact globally and advance implementation of the Global Compact for Migration.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Participate in the roll-out and implementation of the IOM Global Private Sector Strategy 2023 - 2027 with targeted outreach and stewardship to private sector stakeholders in Australia.
2. Undertake mapping of new private sector prospects and identify existing partnerships and engagement opportunities for scale up in Australia.
3. Lead on the development and implementation of a Private Sector outreach plan for Australia with the aim of fundraising for global IOM operations and broad-ranging partnerships.
4. Develop and maintain an Australia donor database, strengthen and scale up relationships with private sector, produce ongoing analysis and monitoring fundraising campaign results.
5. Coordinate and strengthen private sector engagement across institutional priorities and key thematic areas of engagement in Australia and other regions while enhancing the stewardship of private sector stakeholders in Australia in coordination with Headquarters (HQ).
6. In coordination with relevant organizational units and programmes, develop and implement initiatives that deliver IOM thematic expertise to the business community in Australia through tools, training, and guidance (for example on due diligence, access to remedy, employer pays principle, migrant voice/empowerment, inclusive and representative policies etc.).
7. Build, document and share best practices throughout PSP by thematic/priority area to further inform impact.
8. In coordination with Thematic Teams, lead activity to present calls to action for our key advocacy messages to the business community.
9. Monitor, advise, and report on progress made against key performance indicators (KPIs) for partner pipeline in Australia.
10. Collaborate with the PSP for the preparation of reports to private sector partners.
11. Advise IOM missions globally on Australia private sector fundraising trends, Australia national laws and fundraising trends, licensing, data protection and privacy.
12. Support private sector engagement efforts in the Asia Pacific region by liaising with private sector focal points in the Asia and the Pacific region to enhance regional private sector engagement and support coordination with HQ.
13. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Master’s degree in Business Management, Political Science, Human Rights, International Relations, Marketing, or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or,
- Bachelor’s degree in the above fields from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience
- Experience in private sector partnership and income building with proven success in mobilizing financial resources from corporations and philanthropic foundations.
- In-depth understanding and experience of Australia context and established track record in private sector partnership work in Australia.
- Excellent understanding of private sector priorities and gained experience in developing partnerships and fundraising with the private sector.
- Experience in handling Corporate Social Responsibility programs and corporate recognition programs.
- Experience in exploring new private sector opportunities and providing inputs to design and develop solutions with prospective partners for income and impact.
- Experience building long-term partner relationships and understanding of the value of expanding relationships across geographies and comfortable engaging with multiple sectors.
