About the role
An exciting opportunity exists for a law undergraduate with a passion for the law to assist the OWHSP with the delivery of an effective prosecutions service, by providing efficient and insightful paralegal support. This role will require you to liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders, including legal professionals and government personnel.
Key responsibilities
- Provide administrative assistance to prosecutors within OWHSP in the preparation and conduct of matters before the Court including for trials and/or sentences. For example, by collating (photcopying and tabbing) briefs of evidence, preparing case summaries, instructing, liaising with prosecution witnesses, and drafting reports.
- Provide brief assessment support, for example, by analysing and summarising evidence.
- Liaise as instructed with staff in the Office of Industrial Relations, courts and other stakeholders, including defence legal representatives.
- Manage, under supervision, a caseload of less complex prosecution files, including by assessing briefs of evidence against applicable guidelines and preparing written recommendations for approval.
- Undertake legal research and keep internal legal resources updated.
- Assist with the preparation of internal procedures and guidelines and undertake general administrative duties.
