**About the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations**

**The Role**
The Evidence and Assurance Division provides critical assurance, data management, reporting analytics, and evaluation services to the Employment and Workforce Group to drive continuous improvement and ensure that Workforce Australia delivers great employment outcomes.
The Data Management and Reporting Branch within the Division is responsible for developing and delivering in-depth reporting, analysis, and other data products for employment services programs. The Branch also develops data management policies and advice to advance the effective use of employment services data, including metadata creation and data asset management.
The branch is made up of six sections: four that each focus on data reporting and analysis services within a specific data domain, one that sources and develops data for the reporting and analysis teams to use as part of their work and one that supports the management of data within the Group by implementing governance frameworks, associated training and targeted advice.
As an Assistant Director in the Compliance Reporting Team, you will be responsible for managing data projects, leading and mentoring small teams of data specialists, and working closely with stakeholders (including program and policy development areas, the senior executive, the Minister’s Office, and external organisations) to deliver timely and accurate reporting and analysis. Working in a department with a strong evidence culture, this is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate and enhance your skills as a data leader, using data to inform policy and operations of programs that over assist over one million Australians each year.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
Responsibilities of the Assistant Director may include:
- Reporting to an EL2, lead a small team of analysts to deliver a work program of complex data-centric projects and ad hoc data requests.
- Manage competing priorities, providing advice and status reports to the Director and Assistant Secretary about project dependencies and deliverables.
- Supervise and develop APS staff in data roles.
- Build relationships with stakeholders to ensure the provision of high quality and timely insights.
- Effectively communicate with colleagues in policy and operational areas to understand their data needs and interpret analytical results and other data-related issues in a policy and program context.
- Use specialist data manipulation, analysis and visualisation tools such as SQL Server and Qlik Sense.
**Qualifications and Education**
- Tertiary degree or equivalent work experience in quantitative fields such as statistics, psychology, economics, maths, science, data analytics, information systems or similar.
