What is the role?
AFP Intelligence Operations is seeking people who are passionate about intelligence and want to make a real difference to Australia’s national security and criminal environment. Applications are sought from suitable applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Intelligence Officer (Band 4) within AFP Intelligence Operations.
AFP Intelligence Operations provides specialist intelligence capability for the AFP across a range of criminal and national security threats including, but not limited to:
serious and organised crime;
human trafficking and people smuggling;
money laundering and financial crime;
terrorism;
cybercrime;
crimes against the Commonwealth;
fraud and corruption;
espionage and foreign interference
AFP Intelligence Operations delivers outcome-focused, high quality intelligence insights to inform decision making, maximise operational outcomes and enhance our understanding of the criminal threat environment. AFP Intelligence Operations is one of many functions that contribute to the domestic and international objectives of the Australian Federal Police.
What will you do?
Intelligence Officers engage in collection, collation and analysis of information to produce timely, accurate and actionable intelligence that influences decision-making at all levels. As an Intelligence Officer (Band 4) in AFP Intelligence Operations you will:
Work as part of a team providing intelligence for complex investigations, to address national intelligence priorities and to meet AFP strategic objectives.
Identify and interpret data and information that is then used to inform intelligence assessments.
Maintain knowledge and understanding of the criminal environment and relevant Commonwealth legislation.
Use critical thinking and analytical ability to assess threats to Australia, Australians and Australia’s inerests.
Work collaboratively in close partnership with our internal and external partners to achieve tangible outcomes against Australian and international criminal threats.
Contribute to the picture of transnational serious organised crime and national security threats, identifying priorities, and achieving intelligence and operational outcomes.
Provide written and oral intelligence briefs that inform AFP strategies, decision makers and operations.
You will also be required to contribute to the achievement of outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct and the AFP Governance Instruments.
Essential Requirements
**Suitable applicants will have the following**:
A Negative Vetting 2 (Top Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Must obtain an AFP Employment Suitability clearance.
Contemporary experience in an intelligence, policing, criminology, criminal justice, or analytical, research role and a sound understanding of the role of intelligence in policing or law enforcement.

Ability to assess, evaluate and analyse information to develop arguments using logic and evidence.
Ability to produce succinct and accurate intelligence products with high attention to detail.
Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
